The Ministry of Human Development Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation is organizing a series of events on Social Protection in collaboration with some of its development partners including, UNICEF, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Bank (WB) and Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI). The Ministry aims to increase the knowledge of national and civil society partners on key areas of social protection; and to generate some commitments on strengthening the Belizean Social Protection System by making it more comprehensive. These areas of focus will therefore coalesce the national social protection discussion into a broader agenda.
Conference 1: Flaws to Floors (Dec. 3rd to 7th, 2018)
Conference 2: The Role of Labour in Social Protection (Feb. 25th to 26th, 2019)
Conference 3: Social Protection Response in Emergencies (May 20th to 21st, 2019)
Conference 4: Poverty: From Dollars to Dimensions (June 3rd to 7th, 2019)
This event for policy makers and data managers aims to increase national understanding of poverty as a multidimensional phenomenon, which affects the lives of the poor in many ways and dimensions. It will also introduce the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and will aim to reach national consensus on the purpose and structure of a national MPI for Belize, considering which dimensions and indicators are the best ones to characterize poverty in our context.
June 3-4: Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel, Belize City
