The goal of the Child Protection Services Division (CPS):
is to protect children from physical, emotional, sexual abuse, neglect and exploitation; it focuses and conducts investigations on the reported abuse and neglect of children under 18. Services are provided to alleviate family dysfunction, including family preservation services to high-risk families. Case work responsibilities extend to families of children in the care and custody of the Department, aiming in first instance to reunify children with their families, to ensure a permanent home for all children with relatives or, as a last resort, recommend a placement in adoptive homes (via referral to CPSS Division).
